  • Cycle Lanes along A104 from The Warren to Wake Arms Rdbt. (CAP App. I.15.1)

Created by Chris Lord // 1 thread

Improve Non-Motorised User connectivity by providing a better and safer on-road route along the A104 Epping New Road.
    * Where possible, clear vegetation behind the existing off-road shared-use footway/cycleway section outside of The Warren, and widen this to make it safer and more useable.
    * The route could then continue on-road as now, but with the existing Diagram 1004 markings removed and replaced by wider Diagram 1049B mandatory cycle lane markings, increasing the available width for cyclists from 0.8 metres to 1.2 metres
    * Provide, at regular intervals, Diagram 1065 ‘40’ roundel road markings indicating the maximum speed limit along the road. This would supplement the existing Diagram 670 repeater signs which could also be provided in greater quantity.
    * This scheme may potentially be considered during 2017 as part of the option development process for the A104 / B1393 Route Based Strategy
    * There is the potential to create an off-road section of shared-use footway/cycleway in the area between the A104 Epping New Road, the Wake Arms Roundabout and the A121 Wake Road, to improve access from these routes to the restaurant and fuel station.

  • Crossroads at Pyrles Lane, Hillyfields and Chester Road (CAP App. I.13.2)

Created by Chris Lord // 1 thread

At the crossroads at Pyrles Lane, Hillyfields and Chester Road: two slight collisions occurring due to driver error and also cyclist error by pulling in front of vehicles causing them to swerve and hit other vehicles.
    * At the crossroads at Pyrles Lane, Hillyfields and Chester Road, there is the potential to create an improved public space regeneration scheme.
    * Potentially provide a 'TfL Quietway-style' cycle-friendly, low-traffic feel at the crossroads (e.g. via a speed table to slow traffic).
    * Dedicated space for cycling on the approaches to the crossroads via either on-road cycle lanes or off-road paths.
    * New crossing facilities to replace existing examples.

  • Circular route connecting Epping Forest, West Loughton & Debden (CAP App.I.13.1)

Created by Chris Lord // 1 thread

Many people find the prospect of cycling on the A104 Epping New Road intimidating. This scheme could offer a quieter and perceivably safer primarily off-road route linking potential scheme 8.2 and the A104 via Loughton Camp and Golding’s Hill to Debden Green and a quiet on-road route south to Hillyfields, which then links in with potential schemes 12.1 and 12.2 leading to Debden itself.
    * Provision of a Quiet Lane Route as a less stressful and perceivably safer primarily off-road route alternative to the A104 Epping New Road
    * The scheme could form part of a circular
route around the Loughton and Debden area. Section 1 to the north-west of Loughton would help to link up potential schemes in the west and the A104 via Loughton Camp and Golding’s Hill with Debden Green.
    * From Debden Green a second section comprising a quiet on-road route could then be provided along Debden Road and England’s Lane, heading south to Hillyfields or west along Clays Lane, which then links in with potential schemes 12.1 and 12.2 leading to Debden itself, and on- road schemes 10 and 1 leading back to Loughton and Buckhurst Hill.

Junction should be improved to facilitate cyclists who are currently not catered for west of Hillyfields.
    * Junction should be improved to facilitate cyclists who are currently not catered for west of Hillyfields.
    * Potentially upgrade the existing zebra crossing west of Hillyfields to a toucan crossing, and moving it closer to the end of the existing cycle route.
    * Widen the existing footway alongside the westbound Rectory Lane (potentially using some of the grass area behind the footway) to enable it to become a shared use facility.
    * Potentially upgrade the existing zebra crossings and mini-roundabouts to a signalised junction and crossings.
    * This could get cyclists on to the western side of Church Hill.
    * Provision of an approx. 150 metre long segregated footway/cycleway (if possible) along the route of the existing footway on the western side of Church Hill and Golding’s Lane.
    * Improvement of the PROW footpath surface and signage for cyclists from Golding’s Lane to Stony Path Lane

Improve Non-Motorised User connectivity by providing the missing links to connect the Hillyfields area with Debden Tube Station and local shops/services.
    * Provision of shared use footway/cycleway along the upgraded path between Borders Lane and Rectory Lane.
    * Signage and road markings along the existing Rectory Lane side road for 0.2 miles until the start of the existing off-road unsegregated shared-use footway/cycleway route.

    * Consider a part on-road, part off-road scheme here heading south for cyclists heading towards Debden.
    * North of Conyers Way the scheme could then comprise signage and road markings along Lawton Road for approx. 160 metres to the start of the existing segregated footway/cycleway to Hillyfields.
    * Scheme could potentially continue as an on-road route north to the crossroads at Pyrles Lane, Hillyfields and Chester Road.

    * The off-road route could continue to the start of the existing housing at Chester Road, with an on-road cycle lane route
